Feeding Arizona Returns to Phoenix with Phillips Law Group Volunteers
October 18, 2023
On October 14th, another successful Feeding Arizona event took place in Phoenix, AZ, with several Phillips Law Group volunteers on hand to help hundreds of homeless neighbors who came for food, self-care services, and more. Several community organizations partnered with Phillips Law Group for this event, and our firm is truly grateful for their assistance.
Phillips Law Group and Community Volunteers Help the Homeless
Thanks to the help of a community partner, hot meals were served to 268 people between 7:30 and 10:30 am, and that was just the start of the services provided to homeless individuals who attended our latest Feeding Arizona event.
Volunteers for Feeding Arizona gave out 96 bags of ramen soup alongside essential resource items. Some items donated to the homeless community at the event included 300 pairs of socks, 75 lotions, 75 thermal blankets, 80 deodorants, 100 chapsticks, 50 body wash bottles, 200 toothbrushes, and 40 laundry kits. We had the opportunity to give back to so many members of our community at this event, and it’s one that volunteers in attendance won’t forget anytime soon.
In addition to the items donated to individuals in need, 68 haircuts were also provided free of charge. There were seven barbers on hand to assist with this endeavor, and family members and friends of the firm were among them! Other free services provided to our unhoused neighbors who came to the event included a nail polish change, a makeup application with lashes, and facials.
Volunteers also handed out over 56 blessing bags that included essential items such as chips, cookies, nuts, jerky, treats, socks, mini memory albums (with “Hope” inscribed on the outside), and more. Finally, volunteers handed out four cases of water and more than 120 Propel water bottles to individuals in need.
New Volunteers Make a Difference at Feeding Arizona
For this particular Feeding Arizona occasion, 13 Phillips Law Group employees participated, with some new volunteers helping out for the very first time. 36 community volunteers also assisted at the event, further highlighting the firm’s commitment to starting and building partnerships with people and organizations in the community that are looking to help our homeless neighbors alongside us.
“It is through acts of kindness and generosity like these that we create a stronger, more compassionate community,” Jackie Velez, Community Outreach Coordinator at Phillips Law Group, said after the event. “The willingness to lend a helping hand and brighten the lives of those in need exemplifies the core values we hold dear at Phillips Law Group.”
She added that the “dedication” shown by volunteers to “making a positive impact” is commendable, and “sets a shining example for others.”
Feeding Arizona Returns, Makes an Impact on Our Community
Jackie also relayed an interaction she had at the October 14th Feeding Arizona event in which a community volunteer joined Phillips Law Group and others at the nail station. The volunteer shared her story of aging out of foster care and how she lived in a house across the street from where Feeding Arizona was serving the community.
“She was in tears of gratitude,” Jackie noted. “She said she could have been one decision away from homelessness…she stayed focused. Now she’s in a beautiful relationship, has a son, and loves giving back to the community that she grew up in.”
Sharon Mews, an Office Support Assistant and member of the Marketing team at Phillips Law Group, also shared a story from her time volunteering for Feeding Arizona. She explained that a member of the Phillips Law Group team volunteered at the event and brought her 5-year-old grandson with her.
“He said, ‘Gamm, you work really hard for all of us so that we always have a home’,” the volunteer told Sharon. The volunteer, Kathy AuCoin, then had a discussion with her grandson about how “there are different reasons people become homeless and that it’s not always their fault. That’s why we need to give back and help others, to make a difference in their lives when we can.”
