Community Service Commitment Continues at Phillips Law Group
November 7, 2023
As a firm, Phillips Law Group is deeply committed to both helping our clients and giving back to our community. We assist with and organize frequent volunteer opportunities, and in the months of October and early November, our community service commitment continued with several different outreach partners.
MANA House
On October 24th, volunteers from Phillips Law Group volunteered for the first time at MANA House. MANA stands for Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force, and the organization provides transitional housing and “is a peer-run organization of homeless and formerly homeless veterans offering personal, individualized basic resources, community, and advocacy for all veterans.”
Currently, MANA House is housing 60 veterans. The organization supplies a room, hot meals, and clothing to veterans in need, and a few volunteers from Phillips got to tour the facility in October. It includes everything from an all-faith chapel, to a recreation room, to a cafeteria where the meals are served, and more. Each resident is assigned a chore to do, which helps keep MANA House clean and in great shape for those who live and are provided services there.
There is a donation room on-site at MANA House, where Phillips Law Group volunteers helped organize clothes, pillows, and blankets for the residents and other veterans in need. During the visit, volunteers got to meet Mr. Kimble, a longtime resident who is responsible for feeding the outdoor cats at the facility, as well as several other individuals.
One of the volunteers, Lauren, commented that the visit to MANA House was “so special.” With many other possible ways to assist MANA House in the future, Phillips Law Group is sure to be back soon!
The Foster Alliance
A few days later, volunteers from Phillips Law Group got the chance to work with The Foster Alliance again as well. The Foster Alliance was previously known as AZ Helping Hands, and they are one of the firm’s long-term outreach partners.
On October 26th, eight Phillips Law Group employees had the chance to assist the organization, which provides clothes, gifts, supplies, shoes, resources, and more to foster families across the Valley. Volunteers got to decorate birthday bags and birthday cards for the children The Foster Alliance works with, making 16 birthday bags and 15 birthday cards total for kids with birthdays coming up soon!
During this particular visit, the volunteers met some of the children who were given birthday bags and cards. Sharon Mews, one of the volunteers, said of the experience, “It’s rewarding to see that child receive their birthday bags and cards that we made for them!”
Maggie’s Place
Just a day later, Phillips Law Group volunteers got right back to work helping their community. In October, several firm employees donated and delivered over 60 costumes for the kids at Maggie’s Place to celebrate Halloween in style!
On October 27th, twelve employees specifically assisted with the setup for Maggie’s Place’s big Halloween Celebration. Volunteers sorted costumes and organized them onto racks; they also helped with decorating the “Mad Science Lab” spooky room for the kids at the event to enjoy. The Halloween event didn’t take place until the following day, but Phillips Law Group volunteers made sure Maggie’s Place was ready to welcome any kids and families the organization assists who decided to make their way to the party.
“We volunteer with Maggie’s Place twice a month, and it’s always a fun opportunity for our employees to give back,” Sharon said of the experience. “We love the work that this organization does.”
NourishPHX
Finally, on November 1st, a handful of Phillips Law Group volunteers helped out at NourishPHX, an organization that assists Phoenix residents who face economic challenges when it comes to food, clothing, job placement, and more. Volunteers worked in the clothing area at their facility and helped reorganize clothes and added new donations to the racks.
Lauren, one of the volunteers in attendance, said the service opportunity was “awesome,” and noted that her fellow volunteers “went the extra mile” to make sure things were sorted well. Olivia, another volunteer, added, “It was great to see everyone in the facility working behind the scenes to get everything ready for the next morning.”
Sharon mentioned that one thing she appreciates about the work NourishPHX does is their lack of hassling individuals in need by asking for lots of unnecessary information in order for them to get food assistance. She noted that they specifically make their services “accessible to as many people as possible without making it feel degrading or overwhelming.”
The work NourishPHX and all the organizations Phillips Law Group works with is so important, and we love having the opportunity to give back to our community thanks to these amazing partnerships. Our community service commitment is a big part of how we operate as a firm and we are very proud of all of our volunteer work as a team.
