Giving Back to Your Community for Thanksgiving

For many, Thanksgiving is a time to get together with family or friends and have a lovely meal. People travel for miles to prepare a turkey dinner, watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, enjoy each other’s company, and more.

But not everyone has somewhere to go or someone to share the holiday with. Fortunately, there are many community service organizations that give back to the community for Thanksgiving – and beyond – that you should consider working with this holiday season.

At Phillips Law Group, we strongly believe it is important for businesses to give back to their community. Community outreach is at the heart of our firm, and we have many community service partners that we regularly work with on service initiatives. 

Any of the organizations we partner with could use some extra volunteers this holiday season and throughout the year. From Cloud Covered Streets, to Maggie’s Place, to The Foster Alliance, and more, each of the groups we volunteer with would likely have something for you to do this Thanksgiving or leading up to Christmas.

Other Ways to Give Back This Thanksgiving

Outside of our firm’s community service partners, there are lots of other ways you can choose to give back this Thanksgiving. 

There are likely soup kitchens near you that could use servers or other volunteers, or food banks that need a few extra hands to assemble boxes for donation and to sort goods. Or, if you can’t volunteer somewhere in person, local charities that provide necessary resources for people in need may be looking for financial donations ahead of the holidays. 

Another option you can look into for service opportunities in your community is places like community centers, veterans organizations, and nursing homes. It’s possible they would just appreciate a friendly face coming to cheer up people who are visiting or staying there! If you do some research into places like this, your community almost definitely has somewhere where you can go and spread some smiles. 

Speaking of spreading smiles, if you know someone who doesn’t have anyone to celebrate Thanksgiving with and you have room at your table, why not invite them? The more the merrier, especially when it comes to enjoying a great meal together. 

Finally, another way you could give back to your community for Thanksgiving in a manner that would make a difference well after the holiday is over is by attending a local blood drive. There is always a need for blood donations, and your donation could quite literally save a life. Phillips Law Group regularly works with Vitalant, but other organizations have donation centers and mobile units available to visit for donations, too.
