- Verizon Class Action Lawsuit Means Customers Could Claim Cash
January 22, 2024
Verizon customers could receive a payment of up to $100 thanks to a Verizon class action lawsuit settlement with the company. The settlement is meant to resolve claims from some customers that its service plans were misleading because the company added an extra “administrative charge” to customers’ monthly bills.
Can You Claim Money in the Verizon Class Action Settlement?
In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs claimed, “that Verizon’s representations and advertisements regarding the price of its post-paid wireless service plans were misleading because the prices did not include the Administrative Charge, and that Verizon implemented and charged the Administrative Charge in a deceptive and unfair manner.” Lawyers in the complaint said Verizon “uniformly charged” customers higher monthly rates than advertised and promised.
Although Verizon has denied any wrongdoing in this matter, the wireless provider did agree to pay impacted customers up to $100 each. In a statement to CNET, a spokesperson said Verizon “clearly identifies and describes its wireless consumer Admin Charge multiple times during the sales transaction, as well as in its marketing, contracts and billing. This charge helps our company recover certain regulatory compliance and network-related costs.”
Despite that denial, the lawsuit has been settled and customers should now be able to make a claim in the Verizon class action settlement. But not every current or former Verizon customer qualifies to get the cash.
“If you received a notice about this settlement by email or mail, you are in the Settlement Class according to Verizon’s records and are eligible to file a claim for a payment from the settlement,” the settlement website reveals. If you haven’t yet received such a notice, there are a few qualifying factors that may mean you should keep an eye out for it in the near future.
According to The Hill, if you had a postpaid phone plan with the company between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, and you paid an “Administrative Charge” or an “Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge” on your phone bill, you may qualify for the settlement.
Notices to file a claim are being sent out, and include information like an ID number and a confirmation code for those who are eligible. The payout for each claimant will be between $15 and $100, depending on the length of time they’ve been a Verizon customer.
The filing deadline for claims in the Verizon class action settlement is April 15, 2024. If you qualify but do nothing, you will receive no payment and also give up the right to sue Verizon about the issues in the lawsuit. If you think you qualify to claim money in the lawsuit, you should certainly watch for a notice in your inbox or mailbox to take part in the settlement.
