Homeless ID Project Hosts Phillips Law Group and Other Volunteers at 1,000 Voices Breakfast
September 26, 2023
On September 22nd, a few Phillips Law Group staff members were invited to join the Homeless ID Project at their 1,000 Voices Breakfast event in celebration of the organization’s work to end homelessness – a mission that our firm strongly supports.
Phillips Law Group Community Outreach Coordinator Jackelin Velez and fellow staff member Sharon Mews were invited to the Homeless ID Project breakfast and got the chance to interact with individuals the nonprofit has had the opportunity to help since it began “as a small outreach effort 32 years ago.” The organization works hard to assist the homeless in obtaining documents such as birth certificates and identification cards, and their mission and successes were further discussed at this enlightening event.
“Powerful Testimonials” at Homeless ID Project Event
Sharon shared some information about a “powerful testimonial” that came from one of the individuals at the event, held at the Arizona Country Club. “He was homeless, in prison at one point, and in and out of rehab,” she explained.
“He said that throughout his experiences, his feet always hurt so bad. He would wear the same socks for YEARS at a time, and even though he could wash them, they would thin out. He was given a fresh pair of socks, and that meant so much to him. Now he is working in conjunction with the Homeless ID Project to make sure that the homeless community has fresh new socks.”
The Phillips staff members were given several pairs of new socks to hand out to the homeless community, and inside the pairs of socks, there is a card for the Homeless ID Project. This is just one way an organization that works with the homeless can meet them where they are with information about resources to help them, and an example of the many ways Jackie and Sharon were inspired by the Homeless ID Project event.
Another individual spoke of an instance in which they couldn’t seek refuge from the intense heat in Arizona in a hotel room because even though they had the money to secure the room, they didn’t have identification to book it. She had similar problems when she sought help at rehab. But thanks to the Homeless ID Project, she was able to get a valid ID and finally receive the help she needed.
Phillips Law Group’s Commitment to Community Service
Phillips Law Group was honored to have the work we do with the homeless represented at this event, and we hope to work with the organization and others present at the event more in the future. Jackie and Sharon spread the word about the amazing work our firm and volunteers have already done with organizations like Feeding Arizona, Maggie’s Place, Nourish PHX, and more, and we hope the breakfast will lead to more new volunteers becoming involved in our upcoming community service events!
Phillips Law Group gives back to the community in many ways throughout the year. More volunteers are always needed and welcome at these events and at other volunteer opportunities our firm can connect you to.
