FDA Issues Public Health Advisory on Trasylol
On February 8, 2006, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a public health advisory on Trasylol, a drug often used to prevent blood loss during coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The advisory states that the FDA is currently undertaking a safety evaluation to further assess the drugs risks.
Trasylol: What You Should Know
Trasylol is a commonly administered drug in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The procedure is used to alleviate plaque deposits that significantly inhibit the flow of blood to the heart muscle. While the CABG procedure is relatively safe, some patients can experience complications that can lead to serious injury and even death.
At Phillips Law Group, our Trasylol lawyers in Phoenix, Arizona are carefully monitoring the progression of the FDA Trasylol Advisory that was issued after two recent research studies identified potential risks.
What Led to the Trasylol Advisory?
The studies identified a correlation between the use of Trasylol and an increased risk of kidney problems, heart attacks and strokes in people who have been given the drug during coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).
The FDA also advised that doctors should carefully weigh the potential benefits and risks of Trasylol before administering the drug to their patients. Furthermore, any patients who are given the drug should be carefully monitored for signs of toxicity to the kidneys, heart and central nervous system. Any adverse events must be promptly reported to Bayer or the FDA Medwatch program.
Who Should I Contact?
Patients who have experienced complications after coronary artery bypass surgery should contact their medical providers to determine if Trasylol was used for their procedure. If Trasylol was administered, the drug may have factored into post-surgical complications.
If you feel you may have been adversely affected by the use of Trasylol and have experienced any of the following problems after coronary artery bypass graft surgery, contact our Trasylol lawyers in Phoenix, Arizona for information on your rights and litigation options.
